A thermal spring at 28 degrees, right in the middle of the woods, with no admission charge and no opening hours: the Maibachl near Warmbad-Villach is a natural phenomenon with a catch.

The spring only flows during the snowmelt or after heavy rainfall. If you catch the right moment, you bathe in warm spring water beneath the trees. If you miss it, you are left standing in front of an empty pool.

## Why the Maibachl is worth it for a special moment

Two natural spring pools have formed here, built up from stones stacked by earlier bathers. The Romans are said to have bathed here already, so the spot has more than 2,000 years under its belt.
