Snowshoe Hiking in the Lake Faak Region
Enjoying the snow-covered landscape far away from everyday stress and with a breathtaking mountain panorama - that's what makes snowshoe hiking in the region around Lake Faak so special. Explore local mountain peaks, snow-covered alpine landscapes and wonderful winter hiking trails.
Beginners can book a guided beginner's course on the Dobratsch. Furthermore, there are full moon snowshoe tours with trained rangers - an unforgettable experience for young and old. For all those who want to get away from the valley and go high up, a winter hike to the Gerlitzen Alpe at over 2000 metres above sea level is a must. Romantic winter landscapes can be found at the border triangle, the intersection of Carinthia, Slovenia and Italy.
Nordic winter sports
The Villach Alpine Arena is located in the immediate vicinity of the Dobratsch. The Nordic ski centre has a 5-kilometre-long snow-covered and floodlit cross-country ski trail. In addition, there is a 15, 30, 60 and 90 metre high ski jump on site. This is in operation all year round.
Other cross-country skiing trails in the area can be found at the Schönleitn hotel village, in Finkenstein and in St. Jakob im Rosental. These are usable as long as the snow conditions allow. Another Nordic skiing centre is located in the area around Planica in Slovenia. This is located near the Austrian border and is easily accessible by car.
Sledging fun for the whole family
On the toboggan, get set, go! Sledding in the region around Lake Faak is an experience for young and old. Have fun, for example, on the rapid descents over the action-packed hills of the Dobratsch and enjoy the fresh wind blowing around your ears.
Overall, the offer ranges from cosy to fast-paced routes, from romantic forest paths to snow-covered slopes with a mountain panorama. Climb the most beautiful peaks around Lake Faak with your touring skis and then enjoy a breathtaking descent off the groomed slopes. Let yourself be enchanted by the magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and the snow-covered winter landscape.

Ice skating
Winter time is ice time, especially in the region around Lake Faak. Enjoy an eventful and fun day with the whole family on the many ice rinks in the area. Put on your skates, cap and you're ready to go.
The Aichwaldsee, which is only a few minutes' drive from our flats, is particularly easy to reach. This is usually one of the first Carinthian lakes to be opened for ice skating in winter.
